INFOGRAPHICS | Mapping Blood Use in Patients with Thalassaemia Across the EU

Discover insights on blood supply consumption by thalassaemia-affected individuals across 15 EU countries.

Have You Ever Wondered How Much Blood is Consumed by Patients with Thalassaemia in EU Countries?

To answer this question, the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) collected data from 15 EU countries to provide policymakers with a deeper understanding of blood consumption patterns. This information is crucial for promoting targeted service planning at the national level and improving blood donation and transfusion services where needed.

Promoting Best Practices in Blood Transfusion Systems

At TIF, we are dedicated to highlighting and promoting best practices in blood transfusion systems and haemoglobinopathy care. Our initiatives aim to ensure everyone has access to the highest standards of care and information, regardless of their background. By focusing on effective blood transfusion practices and comprehensive haemoglobinopathy management, we are working to mobilize knowledge and educate policymakers to make informed decisions and effective policy planning.

The collected data is particularly relevant given the imminent implementation of the new Substances of Human Origin (SoHO) regulation across the EU. The updated rules aim to improve the safety and quality of blood and other SoHOs, address critical issues such as blood shortages, and enhance the resilience of blood supply systems.
