NEW BOOK | Unseen Battle with Thalassemia by Raj Choudhary

A candid new book explores the realities of living with transfusion-dependent β-thalassaemia and the hope, support and determination that make the journey possible.

The Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) is pleased to feature Unseen Battle with Thalassemia: A Drop of Hope, Belief, and Faith, a personal account by Indian author Raj Choudhary, also known as Raj C.

Diagnosed with transfusion-dependent β-thalassaemia in early childhood, Raj has grown up with regular blood transfusions, iron management therapy, hospital stays, and the many visible and invisible challenges associated with a lifelong blood disorder. In this English-language book, he reflects on how the condition has affected his education, relationships, emotional wellbeing, and career ambitions, while describing his continuing determination to pursue his goals.

The book also recognises the people and communities who have supported him: his family and friends, doctors and nurses, patient associations, blood bank staff and the blood donors whose generosity has sustained his life.

Alongside Raj’s personal journey, the book highlights the importance of voluntary blood donation, awareness and screening, comprehensive care and emotional support. Written in an accessible, first-person voice, it will resonate with people living with thalassaemia, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, donors and anyone wishing to understand the human experience behind the diagnosis.

At its heart, Unseen Battle with Thalassemia is an invitation to replace pity with empathy and to meet every diagnosis with hope, belief and faith.
