WHA77 SIDE EVENT | Access to Novel Therapies Globally: Opportunities and Challenges

Join TIF and WFH at the 77th World Health Assembly

The Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) and the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) are jointly organising a Side Event to the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA), which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on 31 May 2024.

The Side Event entitled “Access to Novel Therapies Globally: Opportunities and Challenges” is set to take place Friday, 31 May 2024, from 10:00 to 13:30, at the International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva.

Date: Friday, 31 May 2024
Time: 10:00 -13:30
Venue: International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, Geneva, Switzerland

Event Overview:

In an era where new therapies emerge rapidly, there arises a contentious debate regarding their cost-effectiveness and implications for healthcare sustainability. Despite their substantial costs, these technological breakthroughs must be accessible and essentially serve the needs of patients by enhancing their longevity and quality of life.

How can WHO Member States ensure patients’ rights to these advanced treatments are preserved? How can they tackle the widening health disparities among countries at different economic levels—a gap widened by these novel treatments?

This Side Event aligned with the 77th WHA seeks to propel this crucial dialogue among key stakeholders by fostering awareness and promoting collaborative strategies to unravel challenges surrounding access to these therapies.

Attendance at the event is limited to in-person participation only.
