TIF organized a preceptorship programme for two Maldivian nurses from 18 July to 2 August 2019 at the Thalassaemia Centre, Makarios Hospital, Nicosia. For over two weeks Ms. Khadheeja (Senior Registered Nurse) and Ms. Gulisthan Easa, Clinical Nurse, from the Maldivian Blood Services observed and experienced the work environment of one of Europe’s leading thalassaemia clinics.
They interacted and met with experts and reflected on their impressions with Dr. Eva Knoll, Social Anthropologist at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, who had initiated the training program and joined TIF Headquarters as a visiting scholar.
A collaboration between TIF, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Health in Maldives, the Maldivian Blood Services and the coordinating host from Nicosia’s Thalassaemia Centre, Dr Sotiroulla Christou, made it possible for the nurses to return now to the Maldives with new insights and incentive!
