People with Thalassaemia Can Achieve Anything!
Patient
Pakistan
I am Danish Tunio, a tenacious thalassaemia fighter, social activist, and motivational speaker. Born in 2004 in Larkana, Pakistan, I was diagnosed with Beta Thalassaemia at the tender age of three months. Despite this challenge, my father—a devoted police officer—made sure I received the best possible medical care.
At the age of seven, my life took a harrowing turn when I suffered cardiac failure as a result of iron overload. Confined to my bed and forced to withdraw from school, I began intensive chelation therapy with imported Desferal, which was not available in Pakistan. After a grueling two years of treatment, I successfully managed my iron levels and re-entered school.
At the age of twelve, I decided to set myself a mission: to raise awareness about thalassaemia and do everything I could to improve the lives of others living with the disease in Pakistan. To achieve this aim, I organized numerous blood donation drives and informative sessions. Now a motivational speaker and law student, I champion our cause with unwavering dedication. My efforts have been recognized with awards and accolades from local governments and social welfare entities.
My guiding principle is strong: ‘Thalassaemics can do anything others can!’ Through my narrative, I encourage people to embrace their challenges and pursue excellence regardless of the obstacles they face.
