TIF Award Ceremony

The ‘Panos Englezos’ and ‘George Englezos’ Award Ceremony took place in the context of the Opening Ceremony of the 14th International Conference on Thalassaemia and Haemoglobinopathies and the 16th TIF International Conference for Patients & Parents, attended by the Minister of Health of Greece, Mr. Andreas Xanthos, as well as several political and social figureheads.

The ‘Panos Englezos’ Award was presented to Mr Costas Papageorgiou, President of the Pan-Hellenic Association for the Protection of Thalassaemia Patients, co-founder and former President of TIF, for his many years of voluntary work in the field of thalassaemia.

The ‘George Englezos’ Award was presented to Prof. Dimitris Loukopoulos, for his enormous scientific contribution to the understanding of the pathophysiology and clinical manifestation of thalassaemia, that has allowed the development of research today to focus on effective methods of prevention and final cure.
