TIF Fellowship for Haemoglobinopathy Nurses 2026
The Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) invites applications for the TIF Fellowship for Haemoglobinopathy Nurses 2026, an advanced clinical training and observership initiative designed to strengthen nursing practice in the field of haemoglobinopathies.
This three-day fellowship offers nurses who are currently working in, and intend to continue working in, haemoglobinopathy care the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on insight into the nursing management of patients with thalassaemia and sickle cell disease (SCD).

Programme Structure
The 2026 Fellowship will consist of a three-day training programme, taking place from 12–14 October, at the Thalassaemia Unit, Centre of Expertise in Rare Haematologic Diseases, Laiko General Hospital, Athens, Greece.
In its inaugural year, the programme will be delivered in Greek and will accommodate a total of two (2) participating nurses.
Participants will benefit from direct clinical exposure, case-based learning, and mentorship from experienced specialists involved in the comprehensive, multidisciplinary care of patients with haemoglobinopathies.
Our Specialists
The Fellowship will be conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Maria Dimopoulou and Ms. Elpida Georgiadi.
Maria Dimopoulou graduated and completed her training in Hematology and her PhD in the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in LAIKO General Hospital of Athens. She specialized in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation at Royal Free Hospital, London, UK.
Ms. Elpida Georgiadi graduated from the Nursing Department of Athens University of Applied Sciences (TEI of Athens) and the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She also holds a Master’s degree in Intensive Care and Emergency Nursing.
Who Should Apply
The programme is intended for registered nurses who work in the field of haemoglobinopathies who meet the following criteria:
- Have a minimum of two years of clinical experience in the care of patients with haemoglobinopathies.
- Are currently working in a public healthcare institution in Greece.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuing their professional practice in the field of haemoglobinopathies following the completion of the Fellowship.
- Are willing to actively share and disseminate the knowledge and skills acquired through the programme within their healthcare institutions and professional networks.

Each application must include the following documentation:
- A comprehensive and up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- A written letter of support and recommendation from the candidate’s current employer(s), issued on official letterhead
- Two letters of commitment to work in the field of haemoglobinopathies for at least two (2) years:
- One signed by the candidate, and
- One signed by the director of the employing institution or by an authorised representative of the Ministry of Health of the candidate’s country of employment
- Copy of the candidate’s nursing degree and professional license to practice nursing in the country of employment.
Selection Process
Final approval will be obtained through common consultation and consensus between the training centre and the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF).
Fellowship Support
The Fellowship provides financial support to facilitate the participation of the selected candidates during the training period.
