Loris Angelo Brunetta

Mr. Loris Angelo Brunetta, a thalassaemia major patient, has over two decades of experience as a patient advocate at national and international levels. He is a founding board member of the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF), President of a local Italian association, and coordinator of the Italian Association of Advocacy Council (IAAC) for the Italian Foundation for Thalassemia.

Mr. Brunetta holds degrees in Social and Institutional Communication from the University of Genoa, as well as a course degree in “Human Rights.” As a founding member of both Associazione Ligure Thalassemici and UNITED (Italian Federation of Thalassemia Associations), he has made significant contributions to thalassemia advocacy. He has collaborated on numerous international projects, organized educational events for patients, and represented TIF on delegation visits to various countries such as China, Morocco, Algeria, Albania, Austria, and at the United Nations ECOSOC.

Since July 2018, Mr. Brunetta has been appointed by the European Commission to serve a three-year term as a patients’ representative on the Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP) within the European Medicine Agency (EMA). Currently, he represents TIF in European Affairs as a member of the Patients and Consumer Working Party (PCWP) at EMA. Additionally, he serves as an expert patient on Hemoglobinopathies with the European Hematology Association (EHA) and represents the Red Blood Cell Defects subnetwork within EuroBloodNet-ERN.
