United Nations Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC)
TIF holds a consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), responsible for coordinating the economic, social, and related work of 15 UN specialized agencies, their functional commissions, and five regional commissions.
In April 2017, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) recommendation to grant special consultative status to Thalassaemia International Federation Limited. As of April 2017, TIF holds a consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, which enables the Federation to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies and the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds, and agencies in various ways.
As an ECOSOC consultant, TIF attends meetings and has access to the United Nations through participation in the work of the Economic and Social Council, consultation with the Member States and the United Nations system at large, and based on the nature and scope of the work that the Federation undertakes in relation with thalassaemia prevention and management worldwide.
Consultative relationship with TIF also enables the Council or one of its bodies to seek expert information or advice from the Federation’s experts in thalassaemia.
