Despite being diagnosed with Thalassemia Major when I was just 6 months old, I have lived my life with a positive attitude. My Thalassemia friends kept their condition hidden, even from their own families. In contrast, I dealt with it as something ordinary. However, their secrecy resulted in a feeling of not belonging.
So, I decided to make it my mission to educate people about Thalassemia and change the perception of it being a disability. I pursued my M.Sc. degree in Genetics and devoted my thesis to the matter of oral chelating drug-related toxicities in Thalassemia patients.
Although the commitment to chelation therapy has always been my greatest challenge, I remain determined to overcome it. I know living with Thalassemia has never been easy, it never was and will never be, but may my drive and determination inspire you to believe in your own abilities, to persevere through even the toughest of times, and to overcome any obstacles that come your way. Keep pushing forward with unwavering faith in yourself.
