Breaking Boundaries: The Inspiring Journey of Dr. Najifa
Patient/Healthcare Professional
Bangladesh
My name is Najifa, and I have lived in Bangladesh my entire life. Diagnosed with thalassemia at a very young age, I was nevertheless determined to become a doctor to assist others facing similar challenges. My resolve never wavered despite the inevitable obstacles on my journey. My family’s support has been firm, even though there has been a lack of warmth from society towards people like us. However, I am encouraged by the gradual change in attitudes towards us.
Undergoing blood transfusions every three months and managing my condition with iron chelating agents, I’ve received immense support from my family and friends. Now, I devote myself to improving the lives of Bangladeshi thalassemia patients who lack the resources that were available to me. Through my efforts, I strive to be an inspiration to my community.
It’s crucial we engage in more conversations about thalassemia and work towards its prevention. I am committed to this cause and grateful to God, my family, and my friends for their endless support.
