As the global community prepares to mark International Thalassaemia Day on 8 May, the ITD 2026 campaign is already gaining strong momentum, with the release of its first official campaign materials and the activation of key global initiatives.
This year’s theme, “Hidden No More: Finding the Undiagnosed. Supporting the Unseen,” brings urgent attention to the realities faced by individuals affected by thalassaemia worldwide. It highlights the need to identify those who remain undiagnosed due to limited access to screening, while also supporting those whose daily challenges often remain unrecognised within healthcare systems and society.

The newly released campaign materials—now available online—include the official ITD 2026 logo, a dynamic social media profile frame, and the campaign poster, a central visual tool designed to strengthen awareness and inspire engagement across communities worldwide.
These resources provide a unified and impactful way for organisations, professionals, and individuals to take part in the campaign.
In parallel, several core campaign initiatives have been activated:
As a cornerstone of the global campaign, the “Bring to Light” initiative invites the illumination of buildings, monuments, and landmarks worldwide in honour of International Thalassaemia Day. Through this coordinated global action, cities worldwide are transformed into visible expressions of awareness, recognition, and hope.
By capturing public attention and inspiring engagement, it meaningfully raises awareness, fosters understanding, and reinforces the global call for equitable care and recognition.
Continuing its strong impact from previous years, this initiative provides a vital platform for personal voices and unique perspectives in life with thalassaemia.
Patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals are invited to share their experiences, challenges, and hopes, helping to humanize the condition and highlight the realities of living with and managing thalassemia. In particular, it acknowledges the often unseen burden carried by caregivers and the dedication of healthcare providers.
The continuously updated Activities Map showcases awareness events and initiatives taking place worldwide in support of ITD. It highlights the breadth of global engagement and serves as a central hub for advocacy, collaboration, and inspiration, reinforcing the collective effort to advance the thalassemia agenda.
These actions reflect a shared commitment to raising awareness, advancing advocacy, and ensuring that no one affected by thalassaemia remains unseen.
