The Paediatric Haematology & Oncology Unit at Tunku Azizah Hospital operates under the Ministry of Health Malaysia within a clear multidisciplinary governance framework aligned with national paediatric subspecialty standards. As part of Kuala Lumpur’s tertiary hospital network, the Centre delivers comprehensive care for a wide spectrum of haemoglobin disorders, including transfusion-dependent and non-transfusion-dependent thalassaemia, HbE/β-thalassaemia, and HbH disease.
Clinical management follows national and TIF guidelines, with patient data integrated into the Malaysian Thalassaemia Registry. The Centre also engages actively in clinical research, education, community outreach, antenatal screening advocacy, and voluntary blood donation initiatives, supported through sustained government funding.
