Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Unit, Expertise Centre of Hαemoglobinopathies and Their Complications

Hippokration General Hospital, named after Hippocrates, the father of medicine, was established as a public hospital in 1922 in Athens, Greece, and became an educational institution in 1956.

The hospital is a university institution and is renowned for its training programs in medical specialization and holds a strong reputation as a tertiary care centre, particularly in fields such as cardiovascular diseases, hepatology and hemoglobinopathies amongst others. The Centre has been assigned on a legal basis by the Greek Government under Αριθ, Γ.Π. Υ.Π.Σχ/οικ22475 on 21 April 2023 as a Reference Centre for Haemoglobinopathy Disorders.

The on-site assessment of centre was carried out by TIF Medical Consultants on 28 November 2024.
