Delegation Visit to Iraq – 20 May 2017
Dr Michael Angastiniotis, TIF Medical Advisor, and Ms Michelle Abi Saad, TIF Board Member, were able to speak on thalassaemia control, through an special webinar session at the Iraq Thalassaemia Conference, which took place on the 20th of May 2017 in Baghdad.
This was organized at the request of the Ministry of Health of Iraq, and supported by Novartis.
Dr Angastiniotis presented various difficult considerations in the prevention of hereditary disorders, drawing examples from the prevention programmes of Cyprus and other countries. Ms Abu Said discussed the experience of Lebanon, which has cultural similarities with Iraq. An interactive discussion followed.
The Iraq Ministry of Health is considering the renewal of its policy for haemoglobin disorders in this period.
