Cyprus President Anastasiades Welcomed A TIF Delegation

An official meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, was held this morning by a delegation of the Thalassaemia International Federation, headed by the President of the Organization, Mr. Panos Englezos.

The discussion focused on the current issues of access of patients with thalassemia and rare diseases to innovative drugs and treatments within the newly reformed National Healthcare System, and the promotion of policies to ensure quality health and the creation of a National Institute of Clinical Excellence.

On TIF’s part, it was also pointed out that the National Thalassemia Strategy, which aspires to make Cyprus an international reference point on thalassemia, is soon coming to completion. In order to serve this goal, but also to strengthen the already existing, long-standing and excellent cooperation of the state with the Federation, it was agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between TIF and the Republic of Cyprus.

During the meeting, TIF’s Executive Director Dr. Androulla Eleftheriou, handed over to the President a compendium with all the studies prepared by the Federation, highlighting its timeless and invaluable contribution to the country’s healthcare sector.
