Prevention is the only measure that can drastically reduce the incidencies of severe haemoglobin disorders, such as β-thalassaemia.
It is also what allowed countries like Greece, Italy and Cyprus to go from historically high rates of thalassaemia to a substantial decrease of thalassaemia major cases in the last decades.
