Delegation visit to India – 31 January-3 February 2018
Following a formal invitation by the Ministry of Health and on occasion of the 1st National Workshop of the SAARC countries (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) on the Prevention and Management of Haemoglobin Disorders and Haemophilia, a delegation group on behalf of the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) visited Bangalore, India between 31 January 2018 – 3 February 2018.
The SAARC workshop was a 2-day workshop held on the 1-2 February 2108 in the city of Bangalore. Considering the millions of thalassaemia carriers and thousands of patients in India and neighbouring countries, the workshop comes as the capping stone to TIF’s longstanding, ceaseless efforts to establish thalassaemia as a national concern in need for a nationally-coordinated action plan.
The members of the delegation group participated as speakers in the aforementioned workshop, that took place between 1 – 2 February 2018 in Bangalore, India and met high officials of the Indian Ministry of Health in the context of TIF’s efforts to promote the implementation of a national plan for the prevention and clinical management of haemoglobin disorders in India.
The delegation group was comprised of Dr Androulla Eleftheriou, Executive Director of TIF, Dr Michael Angastiniotis, TIF Medical Advisor, Prof. Antonio Piga, TIF International Expert and Prof. Vip Viprakasit, TIF International Expert.
