Gabriel Theophanous is a 42-year-old beta thalassaemia major patient who has served on the Board of Directors for Thalassaemia International Federation for the past 9 years. He is also the chair of the United Kingdom Thalassaemia Society and has represented both organisations on national and international delegation visits.
Gabriel has been a role model to many patients and family members as he was the first person in the world with thalassaemia major to complete the London Marathon (UK) twice (2006 and 2013), truly remarkable achievements which also helped raise much needed funds for the UKTS while boosting the morale of thalassaemia patients everywhere.
An accountant by profession with over 11 years of experience, he continues to motivate and inspire the younger patients and families with his dedication to the cause. Gabriel is also the proud father of twin boys.
