Mr Anton Skafi’s involvement in Thalassaemia began when he led the ‘Thalassaemia Self Help Group’ in Jerusalem. Later, he joined the thalassaemia Patients Friends Society (TPFS) – Palestine as a Board Member and occupied the position of Deputy Chairman for a few years. He participated in many awareness campaigns lecturing at schools and local communities. He has been active in prevention and the improvement of the quality of life for the patients.
Out of his belief that thalassaemia patients are all equal regardless of politics, religion or colour; he worked with different thalassaemia associations in Palestine and East Jerusalem.
He studied nursing at St. John Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem, where he worked for 17 years, after which he moved to Cyprus where he worked in a private hospital in Limassol as an Operating Room Nurse for thirteen years.
He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Thalassaemia International Federation since 2006, on behalf of the Thalassaemia Patients Friends Society–Palestine (TPFS).
