RARE DISEASE DAY 2022 | Raising Awareness For People With Rare Diseases

Rare Disease Day 2022 is observed on February 28 around the world.

Rare Disease Day is the movement on rare diseases, working towards equity in social opportunity, healthcare, and access to diagnosis and therapies for people living with a rare disease everywhere in the world. Rare diseases are not so ‘rare’ as their name suggests, given that there are more than 7,000 different diseases, many of which have no treatment, that affect over 300 million people globally. Among them is β-thalassaemia, still considered a rare disease in certain regions of the world, such as Europe, despite its being one of the most common autosomal recessive disorders globally.
